We are actually farmers!
It seems so fitting that our first batch of chicks should arrive of the first day of Spring. Granted, there was snow on the ground and the temperature outside didn’t exactly bring to mind cuddly chicks and Easter bunnies, but they came none the less!
Prior to their arrival, John had to clean out the brooder where the chicks will live till they are mature enough to move out to pasture. This entailed scooping out all the old sawdust and litter, catching several mice who decided to make there home there over the winter, and laying out a new, fresh layer of sawdust. As you can see, Moses was happy to help!
The chicks seem to like their new home and the kids are excited to have them here. We’ve encountered some challenges as to the best settings for the heaters to keep them safe and happy, but all part of the learning experience. Who would have thought we would have twenty degree nights at the end of March!
